4 TIPS ON SEEING BEYOND THE FAMILIAR ONES

Before, I've been talking about capturing the beauty of the unpleasant and there are so many articles as well as artist that says the same thing. Photographers tells us to look for a unique moment or unusual thing and capture it but the question is how

This is the reason why I am sharing my little knowledge about seeing the unfamiliar from the familiar. Each day we see many things and most of it are very familiar already. We woke up in the morning, we see our bedding, we felt the fabric of our blanket, the color of our room, the things on our table, the hanged clothes in our cabinet and the folded ones.

Everyday we wait for a public utility jeep or you drive your car. We see people. Students, office workers, young, adult, and the oldies. We noticed they are looking at their watches while waiting, some were listening music from their phones. We hear the engine sound of vehicles passing, we can smell the gas from its engine.

Each day in the office we glance at the papers piling up on our table, the handwriting of your co-workers, the water inside the water dispenser at the corner. . .

We look at it everyday but we did not noticed it. Ordinary situations and the familiar things are seldom noticed.

Who would have thought that a mound of stones can be image worthy? Good photographs of ordinary/familiar things can re-evaluate our way of thinking. "They revive a world previously dead to your senses." Who would have thought that an ordinary pen and paper can be a good photograph?

All in all, what I am talking about is AWARENESS!

Here are some things that I consider when I see familiar things or moments.

1. LOOK FOR NEW PATTERN FROM PATTERNS

Patterns are everywhere. All we need to do is be aware of it. Patterns can be seen from the moment we woke up. The folded lines from our blanket, the folded shirts in our cabinet, the plates from our kitchen.

2. STAY UP-CLOSE

Since we see things wide, why not take a shot closely and let emotion glow.

“Photography for me is not looking, it’s feeling. If you can’t feel what you’re looking at, then you’re never going to get others to feel anything when they look at your pictures.”
— Don McCullin

3. MAKE EVERY SHOT TOUCH YOUR HEART

No worries if your shots aren't emotionally eye-catching the first few times. Photography is a difficult skill. My shots aren't still that good and with emotions. In time, you can make your photos emotionally captivating.

“Photography is a way of feeling, of touching, of loving. What you have caught on film is captured forever… It remembers little things, long after you have forgotten everything.”
— Aaron Siskind

4.BELIEVE IN YOUR SELF

Once you believe, you can. If you believe you can see amazing things out from the ordinary, you will.

5. LOOSEN UP.

Sometimes we get frustrated because we can't best materialized what we have in our mind. Just loose up. Photography is fun, it's not to make you suffer. Developing a sense of awareness and taking a new skill in photography, seeing the unfamiliar from the familiar takes time.

One doesn't need to go to new places to take new images, just noticed the unnoticed from the noticeable and make a new image with it while having fun and enjoyment.

One doesn't need to have a very expensive camera to take great images, any camera will do. Lucas Gentry says "Photography has nothing to do with cameras".
