Whaazzuuppp! I've been in the photography industry for quite a while now. Wow, did I? Yup I did. During those days I've explored many types of photography on my own ( yes, on my own since I can't afford to pay a sensei) when I was still searching for my genre and style. I tried portrait photography, editorial photography, landscape photography, fine art photography, wedding photography, fashion photography, street photography, product photography, event photography, food photography and many more.
It took me many years to find what I love about photography and I am into portrait, wedding, and street photography. I wonder if I had a mentor or a guardian in photography back then I might be in my genre in an earlier years. Years ago no one will mentor you if you can't pay. Not like today you can just YouTube and Google what you want. The positive side of not having a sensei, I was able to understand and learn the art of photography on my own... though the negative side of it was it took me long years because it was on my own.
So, to help you discover your own potentials and genre in photography, here are some lists of common photography genre in my country, The Philippines you must know. This is because every photographer has his or her own genre in photography. It is an incorrect mindset that a photographer is a photographer of all genre. A photographer can and may photographed everything and can do every genre but a photographer excels best if he/she is making photograph according to his/her own genre.

Here are some of the 2020 most common genre of Photography in the Philippines
1. Abstract Photography
Like Abstract painting, abstract photography is a creative form of expression that lets the photographer communicate his/her ideas with no established rule of composition or technique.
2. Architecture Photography
Architecture photography is taking images of buildings, structures, and landmarks. Often, this type of photographers work with architects, builders, and interior designers.
3. Newborn Portrait Photography
This type of photography is really awesome but very delicate. If you want to practice this genre, be sure to know how to be a nurse parent and possesses lots of patience.
4. Black & White Photography
It is usually associated with Fine Art Photography. Who doesn't love BnW? It makes your photograph classic.
5. Boudoir Photography
Boudoir photography is one of the types of photography that I did not paid attention because I think this genre of photography is not for my clients and audience; but it is becoming popular in the industry because some clients enjoy offering sensual portraits to their partners or as a way to boost their self confidence, or as a stepping stone to become a popular model.
6. Commercial/Product Photography
This type of photography practically involves a product advertisement. Brands hire professional commercial product photographers to enhance their product appeal.
8. Documentary Photography
Documentary photographers photographs stories around the world and build stories with the images.
9. Editorial Photography
Editorial photography are for magazines to accompany an articles. Editorial photographers must be versatile and knowledgeable, and updated in any subject matter that are newsworthy.
10. Event Photography
Event photographers usually capture photos from birthday parties, Christening, to debuts. Event photographers captures memories of life events.
12. Fashion Photography
Fashion photographers take images of models, clothing lines, and accessories for the fashion industry.
13. Fine Art Photography
Fine Art Photographers are deep and captures a subject according to his.her personal vision about.
14. Food/Restaurant Photography
Food photography is not just taking pictures of foods, it's more than that. It is the same with product photography, you need to plan your images and make a best masterpiece of it. Images of this type of photography maybe or are usually used in advertisement of a food company
15. Photojournalism
Photojournalism not to be confused with Documentary Photography. Photojournalism are photos of recent events that are news worthy. Images must not be color enhanced not with major edits. Photos must be very authentic and recent.
16. Landscape Photography
Landscape photography is all about capturing the beautiful view of scenery.
17. Lifestyle Photography
Lifestyle photography is about capturing the subjects life while they are doing what they do best. Most of lifestyle photographers are found in magazines, lifestyle bloggers and influencers.
18. Macro Photography
Macro photography is not just about taking extremely close-up photographs of the subjects. It is about entering the world of our tiniest neighbors and making the whole world see their life and beauty.
19. Maternity Photography
Maternity photography is an art of capturing the mother's moment with her baby inside her womb.
20. Portrait Photography
Portrait photography is not about taking pictures of a man/woman's face. It's all about capturing the beauty of human beings (not their prettiness), their emotions, and state of life beyond his/her prettiness while taking images of their face. Portrait is a landscape of emotion.
21. Sports/Action Photography
Sport and action photography is taking photographs of sports for journalism, magazine, or sports event marketing.
22. Still Life Photography
Taking creative photographs of inanimate objects.
23. Stock Photography
Stock photography is where photographers take photos of various types of images and make them available for purchase at stock photography sites for commercial/personal use.
24. Street Photography

Surreal photography is about beyond this reality images. It is a creative way of giving a new perspective of realities. It is creating a scene or a world that is beyond real according to the vision of the photographer.
26. Travel Photography
Is capturing scene, people, lifestyle, foods, cultures and traditions, etc. of other places.
27. Wedding Photography
A wedding photographer specializes in preserving beautiful moments of the groom and bride during their big day.
28. Wildlife Photography
Wildlife photographers are passionate about nature and animals. These photographers capture life of the wild with their zoom lenses.
29. Nude Photography
It is basically an art of a human being's body and not to be associated with pornography. There's a big difference between the two.
30. Glamour Photography
This type of photography focuses on the beauty and sexiness of a person.
