Whazzup! Is blogging still a thing in 2020? It looks like blogging is dead and it is substituted by micro blogging using Instagram, Facebook, and yes with Vlogging. Who likes to read a blog nowadays? Most netizens today doesn't. Even in Facebook or Instagram, when you post a long post, most of us won't read it. Today's generation love to watch videos and pictures... no one cares to read.
Is blogging dead in 2020? No, blogging takes its new form of blogging today and there are still successful bloggers out there who are still blogging and keep on writing stuff that are worth to read even though the reality today is NOBODY CARES TO READ.
Knowing the reality today about blogging, why am I still in this platform? Why am I still writing blogs? Here are my honest and brutal reasons why I am still blogging.
1. IT'S A COMPREHENSION EXERCISE.
Watching videos is fun and entertaining but for me it lacks of one cognitive aspect, it doesn't tickle your imagination and comprehension. Vlogging and YouTube Videos are a Visual exercise. It is not bad, am not against it but most of us today, including me, lacks or shall we say poor in reading comprehension and for me that is devastating. Why? Because proper communication, proper understanding of what is being said or written is mixed up with one's own truth of reality and not truly understanding the Truth of reality.
2. I CAN EXPRESS MORE IN WRITING
Vlogging or YouTube videos are one of the best and fast form of expressing oneself while conveying your message to your audience. If that's the case why keep on blogging? I can make films, videos, or YouTube videos but I don't like talking much in front of a camera or me in the video. I can express more of my self writing that talking.
3. I DON'T CARE IF I AM NOT PAID
By the way, let me ask you first, why do blog, vlog, micro blog, or make videos? Most of the answers I get today are to earn extra money, or to be sponsored by a brand, or to be famous. Who doesn't? But are you doing it for what you can get? Besides, to be sponsored by a company is not that easy and most vloggers today jump into a conclusion that if they vlog, they get sponsors, they get paid, they get the perks of being an influencer. No, you can't. You have to earn it.
I started blogging in 2012 without knowing that I can get sponsors and monetize my blog. I kept writing things that interest me. I don't care if I have readers or not, as long as I am enjoying what I do. Until some companies (Travel and Restos) invited me to advertise their place, foods, or resto. But I really don't care if I am paid or not as long as I am enjoying what I write, I write.
I know I am not gifted with looks (this is not an issue with me because I love my self the way I am and there's nothing I need to change), wait is that a song lyric? hehehe... that's one reason why am not expecting anything from my write ups. Most sponsors or companies which does sponsorship today are looking for a "look/image" to represent their companies image and that person must have the star quality. Companies will not invest in some low or mediocre sites, specially the free hosted sites like mine.
It doesn't mean I did not try applying for collabs, ads, and sponsorship before. I did, but this site was rejected and rejected even by Ad Sense but I am still posting my stuffs here because writing is my passion. Charootts! The truth is, I am not a blogger, I am a writer!
Many will debate me with this. Actually, this is a fact, you can be who you are in blogging. You can be a famous fashionista, just take an OOTD and post in in your blog and say something about it, be a traveler (even if you only travel once or twice or thrice a year). You can be a food blogger. You can be what you want in blogging... but you can also be a writer not a blogger. And, I think I am like that, I am not a blogger, I am a writer. It's kinda like I write stuff in a blogging site.
6. BLOGGING HELPED ME PASSED A CIVIL SERVICE EXAM
One of my superior in my work place advised me to read and read and read anything that I can read months before taking a Civil Service Exam. Here in the Philippines, passing the Civil Service Examination is a necessary requirement of a government employee.
I followed his advise. I read and read and read anything that I can read and I write and write and write anything that interest me in this platform... and I passed the exam without formal review on review centers. my point is, read reason number 1 above.
Civil Service Exam is a time pressure type of exam. If I was not reading and reading and reading anything that I can read and write and write and write anything that I can write, I could not have understood the questions properly in no time. If my comprehension was not that good enough, I have to read and read and read the questions until I properly understand it until the time limit passes.
It's cool and self gratifying if your work is recognized. I write stuffs not only because I have readers waiting for my next post. I am writing something because I love writing. I believe if people have interest in my posts, they will come back to this free hosted site and will take time to read anything I write.
8. THIS PLATFORM IS ALSO FREE
I think everyone love that idea. This is self explanatory. Hehehe!

5. I AM NOT A BLOGGER, I AM A WRITER.
Many will debate me with this. Actually, this is a fact, you can be who you are in blogging. You can be a famous fashionista, just take an OOTD and post in in your blog and say something about it, be a traveler (even if you only travel once or twice or thrice a year). Those are my brutal and honest reasons why I am still in this blogging platform up to this year and for more years to come as long as blogger will still be free.
If you want to do your passion, do it because it is your passion and not because you are pressured to do it.
